New business and cultural event
Following a visit to France, Hon. Alderman Penny Moss suggested
an idea to Waterlooville Business Association (WBA) that would
combine music and culture to boost trade for local retailers.
June of this year saw the idea turned to reality, when the
WBA
staged
the Waterlooville Town Centre Festival of Music Day. Musicians,
brass bands, steel bands, jazz bands, jive groups, musical duos and
more played in five shopping precinct locations throughout the day,
for visitor and shoppers’ enjoyment.
The event’s main sponsor was Hampshire County Council, with
additional sponsorship from Havant Borough Council, Waitrose, The
Waterlooville Directory, SMTC Ltd. and Britedrives.
Owing to its success, it is hoped to stage the event on an
annual basis. The organisers already have ideas to improve and
expand the event next year, planning to make a good day even
better!
