Sustainable Travel

Public Transport Developments

We're looking for opportunities to enhance the public transport system across the Borough - better waiting facilities, more information, higher frequencies. We'll be working with our partners in the public transport sector - local bus, coach, train and ferry companies - to develop new ideas to meet the requirements of the Havant borough community. We will include measures to promote walking and cycling as well.

But what do you think? Granted, fuel prices are lower than they were a year ago, but they're well above £1 a litre again, and higher VAT on fuel will push up prices again at the end of the year; energy costs are going through the roof and the recession is biting. Everyone's budget is tight. Is this encouraging you to try public transport more? What would need to be done to get you out of your car? If you already use public transport regularly, what frustrates or annoys you about it? Or what do you like about it?

Well now's your chance to let us know. We're not a Passenger Transport Authority, so we can't (usually) directly provide or support bus services**. However there may be things we can do or perhaps we can work with others, such as Hampshire County Council who are the PTA and who also look after the roads, or the bus and rail companies, to improve the efficiency of the local transport system. There's a lot of work being done under the auspices of Transport for South Hampshire (linked to the development of the area over the next 20 years in response to the South East Plan) and we intend to play our full part in that, too.

Walking and Cycling

We're also keen to develop the most sustainable travel modes which are emissions free at the point of use, namely our own feet and physical traction - commonly called 'walking' and 'cycling'. For some this is a lost art, or perhaps the perception is that roads are too dangerous. We want your views as we carry out work to develop a safer network of cycling and walking routes across the Borough, joining up our routes with those provided by our neighbouring authorities as well as the National Cycle Network.

We Want Your Ideas!

So, send us your ideas, observations or frustrations on this e-form. We'll have a look and give you some (hopefully) constructive feedback. You'll need to include your name and email in the form, and give us an idea of where you live (full address not necessary), so that if your idea finds its way into our plans you can be properly credited.
