Hayling sails into the future
An exciting vision for the future of Hayling Island Seafront has
been created and is being launched in the year of the 50th
anniversary of windsurfing’s invention on the Island.
The Masterplan proposals to create a more attractive and
accessible seafront include a new watersports centre at West Beach,
a tourist development with restaurants, shops, residential and
visitor accommodation and public plaza at Beachlands and a new café
and play area at Eastoke Corner.
Members of the public are invited to view and make comments on
the proposals so that feedback can be considered and any
refinements can be made. The final stage will be to adopt the
Hayling Island Seafront Masterplan as a Supplementary Planning
Document (SPD) to provide a cohesive and forward thinking approach
to development along Hayling Island seafront for the future.

Councillor David Guest, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable
Development said, “An expert team of professionals have come up
with some innovative ideas to regenerate Hayling Seafront by
introducing new attractions for users.
Many of us have great affection for the Seafront and will be
keen to have a say in how such ideas might be taken forward.
Planners need as much input as possible from us all to help
steer design solutions that define the destination as a premier
national location recognising the home of dynamic wind surfing and
water sports, whilst safeguarding environmentally sensitive areas
as well as protecting and enhancing bathing areas.”
