MEND - Mind, Exercise, Nutrition … Do
it!
Do you want to learn how to be
fitter, healthier and happier?
The MEND Programme is the UK’s largest healthy
lifestyle programme for overweight children and their parents and
aims to help people understand and change unhealthy attitudes
towards food and fitness. Held in twice-weekly sessions and
delivered by specially-trained health and fitness professionals,
the unique course helps children become fitter, healthier and
happier and delivers long-term results. The course gives
families the skills and information to make healthier food choices
and children join in fun activities designed to improve their self
confidence and self esteem as well as their physical fitness.
Families who have attended previous courses at
Waterlooville and Leigh Park have achieved fantastic results.
Youngsters saw their body mass index and waistlines reduce whilst
their self esteem and fitness soared.
Children who successfully completed the MEND Programme in May
not only improved their fitness level, but also reduced their
weight and waist measurements. They took part in a range of
activities such as games, quizzes and a
supermarket tour, and
learnt practical skills such as how to interpret food
labels.
Jaime Law, MEND Programme Manager at Havant
said, “The MEND Programme is a really positive experience for the
whole family. Many youngsters who take part change body
shape, reduce their waistlines and achieve a healthier weight for
their age and height, which results not only in them being
healthier and fitter but also gaining in self esteem and
confidence. MEND is also a great way to make lasting
friendships. We hope that many more families will take up this
opportunity to turn their lives around and apply for a place on the
Programme.”
MEND is a fun after school
programme for children who are above their ideal weight. Its aim is
to improve your child’s health and well-being and best of all its
free!
The programme is for children aged 7
to 13. Support will be provided to children and their families,
teaching them the importance of healthy eating, active living and
ways to change behaviors that will support both.
