Businesses become REPutable

From 1st July 2008, Havant Borough Council will be participating in a 12 month initiative called the Retail Enforcement Pilot (REP).

The aim of this pilot project is to improve consumer and employee protection by targeting high-risk and non-compliant businesses whilst reducing the number of separate agencies that inspect each business.

Environmental Health, Hampshire Trading Standards and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service will be the partners in this initiative, looking at food safety, health and safety at work, fair trading and fire safety respectively.

In this way, the REP allows officers to act as the ‘eyes and ears’ for their colleagues in other areas of regulation. The agencies taking part in REP will continue to provide specialist advice to businesses on request.

If you would like more details about REP please contact Environmental Health on 023 9244 6654.
