More about recycling
Recycle to save a life
Have you thought about recycling your clothes, shoes and
household textiles to help save a life?
There are currently eleven textile banks located in the
borough, on behalf of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air
Ambulance. The Air Ambulance helicopter has already been called out
to a number of incidents in the borough since it was first launched
in 2007.
Good quality items donated into the textile banks are sold to
second-hand clothing traders in the UK and worldwide. 'End of life'
garments are recycled into industrial wipers and cloths, mattress
filling, insulation and new fibres. So far you have helped to
recycle 66 tonnes of textiles, which has helped to raise in the
region of £9,500 – keeping the ambulance in the air.
None of us knows if and when we might require this service, so
why not support the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance by
recycling your unwanted clothes, shoes and household textiles – and
help save lives.

No change to collection days
All waste and recycling is now collected by Havant Borough
Council’s waste and recycling collection teams on the normal
regular day, even if this day is a bank holiday.
There will be no disruption to the service and residents are
reminded that all bins must be available for collection from 7am on
the scheduled collection day.
Revised collection dates for Christmas and New Year will be
distributed to all residents in early December.
Tell us what you think….
How do you think Havant Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling
Service is working for you? It is important that we hear your views
if we are to continue to improve the waste and recycling services
we offer our residents.
We would like to hear your views on rubbish and recycling
collections (
AWC
),
garden waste collection and recycling across the borough. This can
be done by completing our Waste and Recycling Questionnaire.
You can access the
questionnaire by using this link>> if you
would prefer a paper copy you can request one by calling Beth
Manwaring on 023 9244 6629.
All questionnaires must be completed and returned by Friday 18th
July 2008 with all returns being entered into a prize draw for a
chance to win a composting bin.
Did you know
- If all the recycling in the borough was collected and stored
for one year it would fill Havant and Waterlooville Football pitch
6 metres (20’) deep.
- Recycling 1 aluminium can saves enough energy to run a
television for 3 hours.
- That recycling just 2 glass bottles saves enough energy to boil
water for 5 cups of tea.
- Last year in Hampshire we recycled over a million trees’ worth
of paper.
