Havant Borough Council is about to embark on a new journey of
leadership. Following the decision by Councillor David Gillett to
stand down as Leader of the council in 2007 after nine years,
Councillor Tony Briggs has been elected the new Leader.
Councillor Tony
Briggs, together with recently appointed Sandy Hopkins,
Managing
Director of Havant
Borough Council (pictured) will join forces in working together to
give residents, businesses and visitors a borough to be proud
of.
“The vision for the council is to make the borough of Havant a
cleaner, safer and more prosperous area for everyone to enjoy”.
Councillor Briggs explained
“There are two very important roles for us as your council to
play: firstly to take a lead in ensuring excellent public services
are provided across the borough and secondly to look after the
borough for future generations.”
When asked how the council would achieve this, Councillor Briggs
replied, “We will do this through our own dedicated and
professional 400-strong team of staff who deliver over 200 services
every day to our customers, as well as close working with our
partners in the public and private sector.”
Sandy Hopkins confirmed, “The customer is at the core of
everything we do at Havant Borough Council. We recognise that
everyone is different and each individual will have different
needs. Our job is to respond by providing the highest quality of
services accordingly and thinking ahead to what kind of borough
people will want in the future.”
We asked surely this will be difficult to do without being very
expensive. Sandy replied, “This means we need to be innovative and
creative. We will only achieve the best quality of public services
and an attractive borough if we work in partnership with the
police, health, fire, voluntary sector and of course other local
authorities such as Hampshire County Council who provide services
such as education, highways and social services locally.”
