Havant Literary Festival

Details
Havant will hold its first Literary Festival this year between
25 and 28 September. With a packed programme of over forty events
at venues throughout the Town Centre, Leigh Park and Hayling
Island, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Visitors
to the Festival can choose from talks, readings, theatre, signings,
poetry, art, workshops, walks - they can even meet a Poet in a
Shed!
Highlights for children include Giraffes Can't Dance by
Blunderbus Theatre Company at Havant Arts
Centre(havantartscentre.co.uk 023 9247 2700) and a talk by
Shapeshifter author Ali Sparkes on Hayling Island. Havant children
who have completed their Summer Reading Challenge will receive
their certificates at a special Award Ceremony in Havant Library on
Saturday, 27th September. Havant’s literary heritage will be
celebrated with talks on Jeeves creator PG Wodehouse, A Town Like
Alice author Nevil Shute and the poet Keats, all of whom lived or
wrote in the borough. Local authors Dee Williams, Pauline Rowson,
Brian Clarke, Tim Stretton and Tim Bouquet are all scheduled to
appear, along with poet and Costa Prize Winner John Haynes. Also on
offer are short story and poetry competitions, a Book Quiz and the
Eyes Like A Hawk Book Trail, in association with Havant &
Waterlooville FC. News of some big name guest speakers from the
world of literature and theatre will be released in the next couple
of months and a Festival programme will be available from late
summer.
