The stock of VAT registered businesses has risen steadily in
Havant since the early 1990s. At 0.2%, the increase in 2006 was
relatively low compared to the previous year, which saw a 3% rise
in VAT registrations. The low VAT stock increase corresponds with a
sharp rise of deregistrations in 2006, which is mirrored by an
equally steep decline of deregistrations in 2005.

relatively low compared to most of the districts across Hampshire
and the Isle of Wight. Havant also has the second highest closure
rate in the sub region after Southampton.

expectancy, which are matched by a low standardised mortality ratio
and low infant mortality.
on the other hand, Havant has high mortality rates for Cancer
and circulatory disease. Havant also has higher estimated smoking
and obesity levels compared to other areas within the
sub-region. Sub-regional rankings show that Havant
has a higher proportion of obese people than smokers.

Wight average as well as the South East regional average. The life
expectancy in Havant, Hampshire and the South East is higher than
the national average.
The female life expectancy is about 4.10% higher than the male
life expectancy in Havant. These figures are typical of most areas,
as females generally live longer than males.

Although it seems to outperform Portsmouth ang Gosport, Havant
has relatively low scores regarding the indicators of prosperity,
wellbeing and quality of life.

Regarding all the districts across Hampshire and the Isle of
Wight, Havant has relatively low prosperity and wellbeing
scores. The prosperity and wellbeing of an area can be
affected by many factors, including the
environment, deprivation, inequality, industrial
structure and economic performance. More prosperous areas
generally have lower levels of inequality and deprivation.
Havant has an

third highest score in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Portsmouth
and Southampton have the highest

scores in the area,
which correspond with their low prosperity and wellbeing
scores.
Crime

Havant's crime rate is higher than the South East
regional average. However, as we can see from the chart
above, crime has declined significantly in Havant since 2004,
whereas the South East average has remained fairly consistant
throughout that time period.
Crime Score Vs Perception of Anti-social Behaviour

The chart above shows a correlation between the crime
scores and perceptions of anti-social behaviour in districts
across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Havant has the third
highest crime score in the area and an equally high level of people
who believe there is a high proportion of anti-social behaviour in
the area.
Portsmouth and Southampton have the highest crime rates, which
coincide with their proportions of people that perceive there to be
high levels of anti-social behaviour.
