The Gazebo Garden in Havant Town Centre

The Gazebo Garden Inside the Gazebo Garden

Havant Gazebo was built in the late 18th century (1779 is stamped on the weather vane) by William Lellyet who at the time owned the house that stood on the site of the present 23 and 25 East Street, and would originally have looked out onto the Manor House and its grounds and the Fair Field (remembered in the names of Fairfield Road and school).

Eventually separated from the main house and surrounded by development, the Gazebo became neglected and fell into disrepair. In 1982 its condition was perilous and the Bosmere Hundred Society organised the restoration of the walls and roof.

Towards the end of 1989 the car park around the Gazebo was constructed and the opportunity taken to build a walled area attached to the building. Within this area a small garden has been created based on an 18th century design. The flowers and shrubs represent the types used during this period.
