Park Road North, Havant
Work started on 3rd March 2008 on a new 'Growth Point' scheme to
improve the street environment on Park Road North, between West
Street and the railway bridge.
The work consisted of two parts: decorative railings facing the
Central Retail Park (follow this link for more details, and more
information about the Growth Point programme generally); and
more standard pedestrian railings south of the Elm Lane traffic
lights. This latter part included upgrading the footpath and a new
footbridge over the Lavant Stream at Boys Brigade Gardens; widening
and resurfacing the footpath on the west side of Park Road North to
allow its use as a shared footway / cycleway (forming part of the
main route between Portsmouth and Havant via Broadmarsh); and
resurfacing the footpath a short distance into Elm
Lane. A plan of the work carried out is
available through this link (PDF, 960kb) >>. The overall project included
upgrading lighting columns between Solent Road and New Road
roundabout with a new standard design which includes fabric banners
which can be changed to advertise events or to give a seasonal
message.
The project was substantially completed in June, although
occasional lane closures continued to be required to install
street lighting until the second half of August.
