Park Road Growth Point Improvements Project

Havant Borough Council was sucessful in attracting Growth Point funding for Park Road Havant in 2007/09. The new growth points initiative is designed to provide support to local communities who wish to pursue large scale and sustainable growth, through a partnership with the government.

Central Retail Park Railings Project		Park Road, Boys Brigade Gardens and Elm Lane Improvements

The enhancement works included:

• Resurfacing of pedestrian foot-ways
• Rationalisation of unnecessary street clutter where possible
• Replacement of pedestrian guard rails
• Extension of decorative railings to match those at Havant Park Entrance on opposite side of road.
• Introducing new planting to enhance the ‘boulevard’ effect
• New decorative street lighting and banners to highlight the approaches to Havant Town Centre
• Landscape improvements to Boys Brigade Gardens including new footbridge over the Lavant Stream

The aim of this project was to turn a stretch of Park Road from a bypass that is uninviting to pedestrians and acts as a barrier between two parts of the town into a more welcoming street that encourages activity and movement. It links development and substantial car parking on the west of the town to the main core of the town on the east. The improvements have created a safer and more attractive environment for pedestrians.
