Changes to Housing Benefit Claims

We are making changes to Housing Benefit for people who rent their homes from a private landlord. If you make a new claim for Housing Benefit on or after 7 April 2008, your entitlement will be worked out using the Local Housing Allowance rates.

These changes only affect tenants who rent their home from a private landlord.

If you are already getting Housing Benefit, you will not be affected by these changes unless:

  • you move address to a home rented from a private landlord: you must tell us if you change address
  • you have a break in your claim: if you stop claiming Housing Benefit for any reason (for example moving into work) any new claim for benefit will be worked out using the Local Housing Allowance rates.

If you have any questions please visit the Housing Benefit department at the Civic Offices or telephone us on 023 9244 6351/362. You can also email your enquiry to benefits@havant.gov.uk

Council Tax by Direct Debit

Did you know that paying your Council Tax by Direct Debit over 10 months is the most cost-effective and efficient method of payment?

If you do not currently pay by Direct Debit and would like to, please contact the Council Tax Office on 023 9244 6317/6338/6340/6365.

From 2008 anyone paying via Direct Debit will have the option of receiving their bill electronically. If you wish to take advantage of this, please advise the Council Tax Office by email at revenues@havant.gov.uk quoting your Council Tax Account Number together with your full name and address.
