Getting Planning Advice

Anyone wishing to seek advice from the Council about whether a proposed extension or alteration to an existing domestic dwelling will require planning permission or not can speak to a planning officer.

Personal callers

Anyone wishing to speak to a planning officer face-to-face will be able to pre-book an appointment through Customer Services, giving the following information;-

  • site address
  • an exact description of the proposal
  • where in relation to the existing dwelling it will be sited
  • dimensions of what is proposed
  • name and a contact telephone number.

There will be 15 minute appointments from 10.00am to 10.30am and then from 12.15am to 12.45pm.

You can then discuss your proposal and receive more definitive advice about it as a history search will hopefully have been done and the duty planning officer can have already sought a second opinion before the appointment, if necessary.

All callers will be advised in writing within 10 working days of the duty appointment whether permission is needed and any advice on how to improve the scheme.

Telephone callers

If anyone rings and wants simple advice, Customer Services will take the same information as above and e-mail the duty planning officer. They will then ring and advise by the next day, at the very latest.

If you would like to make an appointment to see the duty planner then please call customer services on (023) 9244 6015.

Note:- Any proposal that does not relate to a domestic property will require the applicant to write to the Council.
