Sparkly Bugs
Sparkly Bugs is a project
run by Havant Borough Council to raise awareness and demonstrate
the importance of washing your hands properly and frequently.
You apply a special lotion on your hands before washing and
drying them as you would do normally, and then place your hands
into a glowbox with an ultraviolet light that shows where the germs
and bacteria are on your skin. This highlights areas that have not
been cleaned properly.
The council has four Sparkly Bugs Kits available for loan to
schools or local community groups throughout the borough. Each kit
includes an ultra-violet inspection box and bottled glow lotion -
‘fake’ germs. A ten-minute videotape is also available which is
suitable for 4-7 year olds, together with information sheets, a
poster and stickers.

Any school, group or organisation which would like more
information on Sparkly Bugs or to borrow a kit should contact the
Community Development Team on 023 9244 6642.
