£2 million funding for Havant
During 2007 Havant Borough Council obtained
over £2 million of extra income to help fund 43 different projects
throughout the borough.
Havant is not a rich council with lots of
assets that can generate income, therefore it is important to
obtain funding from outside sources to help enhance the services we
offer our residents.
These sources of funding come from a wide
variety of external places such as the National Lottery, Hampshire
County Council, Central Government departments and even European
programmes.
Projects that have received this funding
include the Market Towns Initiatives in Emsworth and Hayling
Island, improvements to Havant Town Centre, and a variety of sports
and arts projects.
Some of this funding has enabled Havant
Borough Council to employ additional staff such as a Play
Development Worker who is part of the Children’s Play project for
Havant.
Young people in the borough benefit
considerably from externally-funded projects including the
StreetSport Project, funded by the Football Foundation Charitable
Trust. Other projects to reduce childhood obesity, encourage
swimming and dance are also examples of how external funding is
benefiting young people across the borough.
Others who benefit from this external funding
are local voluntary organisations. Last year £793,837 of
National Lottery Funding was awarded to twenty different projects
that run in the borough.
