Young People in Havant Borough
Havant Borough Youth Council or HBYC was
launched in 2002 to give the young people of Havant Borough a voice
within their community. Since then HBYC has gone from strength to
strength with Youth Council members regularly meeting with the
providers of services and projects to influence and inform how they
can best be delivered. Havant Borough Council recognises the
importance and benefit of listening to Children and Young people to
change, improve and introduce new services.
Any young person, living, working or learning in Havant Borough
and who wants to have a say in what goes on in their community can
get involved in Havant Borough Youth Council.
Young people in the Havant Borough have their own dedicated
website, written by young people and winner of the Hantsweb Award
2007! You can find lots of information about places to go and
things to do, as well as what’s going on with Havant Borough Youth
Council. You can see this site at http://www.youthbeat.net/
Havant Borough Council works with local partners in the
Community to deliver services and ensure children and young people
are able to meet the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters
Agenda:

Contribution and Achieve Economic Wellbeing.
Places to go, things to do!
Havant Borough Council offers activities and events throughout
the year, giving children and young people lots of choice and
opportunities to stay safe and have fun.
Streetsport runs throughout the School Holidays and gives
children and young people the chance to try new activities, meet
new friends and gives them somewhere safe to spend their time. To
find out more visit the Streetsport
page.
We also run a large programme of Art Workshops and Events, and
work in close partnership and support many arts initiatives within

Young Peoples’ Participation – Have Your Say!

The Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme aims to
ensure that policies and services are designed around the needs of
young people, and that they are involved with decision making at
local and at national level. By encouraging Children and Young
People to engage in this way forges opportunities for them to make
positive contributions to their communities. Havant Borough is very
proactive in supporting the participation of local young people in
it’s decision making and service planning processes.
