Young people in the Havant Borough have their own dedicated
website, written by young people and winner of the Hantsweb Award
2007! You can find lots of information about places to go and
things to do, as well as what’s going on with Havant Borough Youth
Council. You can see this site at http://www.youthbeat.net/
Young People in Havant Borough
Havant Borough Council is very proactive in ensuring local young
people have the opportunity to have their say about decisions made
by the Council. In the same way the Council has the Citizens Panel
we also have the Havant Youth Panel for young people up to 19
years, and we support the Havant Borough Youth Council which is
open to all young people living, working or learning in the
Borough.
Havant Borough Council works with local partners in the
Community to deliver services and ensure children and young people
are able to meet the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters
Agenda:
Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive
Contribution and Achieve Economic Wellbeing. Our work towards these
goals is set out in the Havant Children and Young Peoples Action
Plan.
Places to go, things to do!
Havant Borough Council offers activities and events throughout
the year, giving children and young people lots of choice and
opportunities to stay safe and have fun.
Streetsport runs through the Summer Holidays and gives children
and young people the chance to try new activities, meet new friends
and gives them somewhere safe to spend their time. To find out more
visit the Streetsport page.
We also run a large programme of Art Workshops and Events, and
work in close partnership with Music Fusion. To find out more visit

Hampshire County Council run several Youth Clubs across the
Havant District, and there is a team of detached Youth Workers in
the community. There is also funding available for ideas from young
people. For more information on these services, please visit

Young Peoples’ Participation – Have Your Say!
Havant Borough is very proactive in supporting the participation
of local young people in it’s decision making and service planning
processes.
Working in partnership with the Havant District Childrens’
Services Team, we support the work of Havant Borough Youth Council.
Open to all local young people between the ages of 11 & 21, the
Youth Council tackle issues in the local community, and also link
in with the Hampshire County Youth Council and the UK Youth
Parliament. The Youth Council are actively involved in
consultations, representing the views of the young people in the
Borough. All young people are encouraged to be active members,
regardless of background or ability, and support is available to
enable this to happen. For more information on the Youth Council,
visit their website www.youthbeat.net
Havant Borough Council also run the Havant Youth Panel, another
consultative forum with 2000+ members. When new services are being
planned, Council Officers are able to find out the views of young
peoples by sending out questionnaires which are completed and
returned. This forum has been hugely successful and has contributed
towards securing £284 000 from the Big Lottery Change for Children
Programme.
