Spectacular Solar Challenge
The annual Solar Challenge that took place on 29th June and
included four local schools within the borough was once again a
great success and enjoyed by all those who attended.
Children from Bosmere, Meadowlands, Bidbury and Purbrook Junior
Schools all arrived at Staunton Country Park on what started to be
a rainy day, however the sun came out just in time for the race.
The children all showed off their own spectacular creations,
engineering skills and fantastic designs of solar powered cars.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness of renewable
technologies and the environment whilst making it fun. The race was
officially started by Mayor of Havant, Cllr Victor Pierce Jones –
who also had a vehicle of his own.
The chequered flag saw Bosmere Junior School racing past and
taking first place. Other winners of the day for best solar design
were Bidbury Junior School with their brilliant model of Patchwork
Percy, a clown with a spinning bowtie.
The two winning vehicles then had the opportunity to race at
Thruxton race circuit against other schools across Hampshire in the
Solar Challenge Final
Double congratulations go to Bidbury Junior School which also
won the recycling challenge held on the same day.
