Non-Dependants

 

Your benefit may be reduced if you have somebody else living with you over the age of 18 other than your partner, such as a grown up son or daughter.  There may be a deduction from your benefit dependent upon their gross income or circumstances.

 

Non-dependants do not include boarders or lodgers.

 

No deduction will be made in the following circumstances:

 

  • You get Attendance Allowance
  • You get the care part of Disability Living Allowance
  • You are registered blind
  • The non-dependant is in full-time education
  • The non-dependant is on a Youth Training Scheme
  • The non-dependant is aged 18–24 and receives Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance(Income Based) and you are only claiming Council Tax Benefit (there is a deduction for Housing Benefit).
  • The non-dependant is aged 60 or over and receives a Pension Credit
