Havant's First Citizen finds being Mayor quite novel
Teacher, Reporter, Author, Councillor and now Mayor of Havant,
Victor Pierce Jones has certainly had a busy time of it.

Councillor Pierce Jones, former features writer and critic for
The Hayling Islander community paper, first started writing under
his actual name, Victor Jones.
The editor felt he needed a little something extra so he added
Victor's second name to the by-line in 1985.
Victor soon found he was putting pen to paper more and more,
writing local history books, plays and even his own mystery novel,
set on Hayling. As Chairman of the Hayling branch of the Bosmere
Hundred Society for nine years, he also wrote thirty-six
newsletters for them.
Victor was invited to stand for the council's Hayling West Ward
in 2002. Since then he has played a very active role sitting on
many committees. He believes that Havant Borough Council is ahead
when it comes to conservation but needs to do better at promoting
heritage issues.
During his year of office the Worshipful Mayor of Havant will
have Margaret, his wife of forty-five years, as Mayoress. They aim
to encourage togetherness across the borough and want people to be
more appreciative of the excellent work done by officers and
staff.
Victor has chosen three charities to raise both awareness and
money for their work. Fifty per cent of funds raised will go to
Hayling
RNLI
Lifeboat
Station.
The remainder will be split between HomeStart, Havant, who
support parents, giving them confidence and strength in their
relationships with their children; and Havant Borough Talking News
who enable visually impaired people to keep in touch with local
news via a fortnightly news tape.
Assisting Victor this year as Mayor will be Deputy Mayor John
Smith, Councillor for Hayling Island East Ward.
