Community Information
Thank You
The British Heart Foundation would like to thank everyone who
took part in the 2007 Round the Harbours bike ride.
Over 1,000 people got on their bikes in June to help raise £1.5
million to fund essential heart research.
Riders from Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Havant all took
part, with Havant having the highest number of pre-registered
riders out of the four areas which took part.

Business Volunteers Required….
Now that the 2007 academic year is underway, the Portsmouth
& SE Hants Education Business Partnership (
EBP
) is looking for a wide
variety of business volunteers to take part in their events planned
throughout the year.
For the past 10 years, the
EBP
has worked with all 28
Secondary schools across the Portsmouth, Havant, Waterlooville,
Fareham & Gosport area to help young people to learn about the
world of work and develop the skills that they need to thrive in
the work place eg. teamwork, marketing, self-confidence,
entrepreneurship, etc.
To do this successfully, the
EBP
works with hundreds of
business volunteers each year that help out with the running of
their activities in schools – typical events include helping young
people run a small business for a day, taking part in a Dragons
Den, speed networking, working lunches, mock interviews … to name
just a few.
Brigitte Baker, Business Broker for the
EBP
, commented: ”all the
events that we run are very worthwhile from the young peoples’
point of view and satisfying for the business volunteers – the vast
majority that take part in our events enjoy working with young
people and ask to do another”.
If you would like to find out more about how you can help with
perhaps one or two events, please contact Brigitte on 02392 291456
or email: brigitte@portsmouthebp.co.uk, or visit their website:
http://www.portsmouthebp.co.uk/.
Trolley troubles
Shopping trolleys are rapidly becoming a problem on certain
streets within the borough. Against the best efforts of many of our
local retailers, shopping trolleys are appearing in streets,
streams, electrical substations and car park areas near you.
If you take the healthy option and walk to your local store,
please be that much more healthy and either carry your groceries
and purchases home or walk back to the store with your trolley!
