What happens when you have a large
item to dispose of, and you cannot take it yourself to one of the
Borough's local
Household Waste
Recycling Centres? The Council offers a chargeable
collection service to residents of the Borough to help dispose of
items such as ovens, TVs, computers, furniture (including carpets,
beds and mattresses), bulk timber ...... in fact, almost anything
that won't fit into a dustbin or a recycling container.
A 50% concession is available for
the Borough's senior citizens and those residents in receipt of
benefits (proof will be required). All payments must be received
before a collection date can be arranged. Collections will be
carried out within seven days of payment.
Please note that if you live in a
flat above ground floor level, all items must be brought down
to an agreed collection point - operatives will not use a lift
or stairs.

However we will not handle garden
waste (a charge is also made for this service -
please
enquire). Small quantities (a car boot full, for example), of
builder's rubble or soil should be taken to the
Household Waste
Recycling Centres. Larger quantities of rubble and soil, even
if carried out as a DIY project, are actually commercial waste
and the disposal needs to be arranged by you, using
a commercial company.
Hazardous waste such as asbestos,
flammable liquids or poisons require special handling. For more
information and advice, please contact
Customer Services by email or tel
(023) 9244
6010.
For the collection and safe disposal
of clinical waste from domestic properties, the Council offers
a free collection service. It does not provide a clinical
waste service to commercial businesses - for this you should
make arrangements with a
private
contractor.
