Member Attendance at Meetings

 

The attendance records of any or all elected members of the Council are available on request.  These records relate to the following meetings:-
 
(a) The Executive
(b) The Overview and Scrutiny Boards
(c) The Regulatory Committees
(d) The Staffing Matters Committee
(e) The Standards Committee
(f) Any Sub-Committees or Panels set up by (a) to (e).
 
and includes details for each member of:
 
(i) The total number of expected attendances
(ii) When they were present as expected
(iii) When they were absent, including apologies
(iv) Apologies received.
 
and are held in full covering the period since 1 October 2006.
 
Those interested in these records need to be aware that attending meetings represents only a small part of the work undertaken by a Councillor in the course of a year.  Councillors undertake a wide range of work that can be summarised by the following key roles:-
 
(i) collectively the ultimate policy-makers and carry out a number of strategic and corporate management functions;
(ii) represent their communities and bring their views into the Council’s decision making process; ie become the advocate of and for their communities;
(iii) effectively represent the interests of their ward and of individual constituents;
(iv) balance different interests identified within the ward and represent the ward as a whole;
(v) participate in the governance and management of the Council;
(vi) be available to represent the Council on other bodies;
  and
(vii) maintain the highest standards of conduct and ethics.
