Is my home in or near a flood risk area?
Some areas are more susceptible to flooding than others. This
may be because of their location near the coast, rivers or streams.
In these areas, the extent of any potential flood area (the
'flood zone') can be mapped quite accurately, using computer
modelling techniques.
To find out if your address lies in one of these flood zones,
visit the Environment Agency web site through the link below, type
your postcode or place name into the "Flood Map" box, press the
'GO' button and after viewing the 'Information summary' page you
will see a map centred on your postcode, with flood zones coloured
in blue. 'Zoom in' on the map for greater detail. The mapping
is not accessible to users of accessibility software; details can
be obtained by telephone from the Agency's 'Floodline' service on
0845 9881188.
Please note that whilst the Flood Maps show flood zones for
both tidal and fluvial (river) flooding, they are constantly
updated as new information becomes available. The maps do not
show flooding areas associated with smaller ditches, nor areas
likely to be affected by groundwater (springs or spring-like
activity) which occur quite extensively in the Havant area due to
the underlying chalk geology. For more information about areas
susceptible to groundwater flooding, use
this link
to the Environment Agency's "Groundwater Information
Service" instead.
