Road safety isn't just about making the driving experience
safe. It's about all users - pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists
together. |
Junctions
If you think a junction is dangerous then
you'll need to tell us why. Some reasons might include:
- visibility
- parking (too close)
- obstruction (temporary or otherwise)
- poor signing
Contact us as above and we will investigate
what can be done to improve the situation.
Pedestrian Crossings
If you think a pedestrian crossing is needed
then you need to contact Hampshire County Council Highways via
HantsDirect on 0845 603 5633 (email
roads@hants.gov.uk). They will
study the accident record and traffic flows and see whether the
request is valid against those standards. As part of the study they
will contact officers at Havant Borough Council to get relevant
additional information.
If the paintwork of a pedestrian crossing has
faded, or the lights are faulty, then report this to Hampshire
County Council Highways as above, or
by using
this online form >>.
Road Humps (Traffic Calming)
Road humps are used as part of an overall
traffic calming process. Traffic calming consists of a package of
measures which change the way traffic moves for the
purpose of promoting safety, or preserving or improving the
environment. Traffic calming is not so much about the use of
specific measures, but about improving driver awareness and
behaviour.
For more information about traffic calming
please see the County Council's web site (link below). To
request traffic calming in your road email Hampshire County Council
Highways at
roads@hants.gov.uk.
A summary of some of the road safety projects currently under way in the Borough
The Department for Transport has a wide range of information for drivers and riders regarding being safe to yourself and others whilst on the road.
Full details from Hampshire County Council on a whole range of road safety issues for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists ... including an on-line shop for safety accessories.
The Department for Transport has an index of Frequently Asked Questions about safety cameras. The message is - there's no problem as long as you don't break the speed limit.
Speed limits are set according to the class and use of the road. They are not targets, nor is the speed limit always the safest speed at which to drive.
