The Council's responsibility

The Council is responsible for ensuring that the energy efficiency of the housing stock in the Borough is significantly improved over the next ten years. The Community Regeneration Service runs a number of projects to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy to residents, community groups and businesses.  The Council’s Home Energy Conservation Officer can provide the following services to residents, community groups, schools and businesses

Residents

We provide energy efficiency advice including referrals to low cost and free insulation schemes.  We work in partnership with Your Energy Advice Centre to advise on cavity wall and loft insulation.  Anyone, regardless of income can receive a grant towards the cost of insulation through the Government's Energy Efficiency Commitment.  Contact the Your Energy Advice centre Free Phone number 0800 512 012.

Energy efficient light bulbs are available free to those on qualifying benefits

We offer crisis support through the health through warmth programme for residents living in cold, damp homes and at risk from health problems.

Please note, there are no grant schemes from the council or government which cover the cost of double-glazing, rewiring or any other type of home improvement.

Information, DIY guides and other booklets are also available on request.

Community Groups

Talks, workshops and presentations to community groups on energy efficiency matters are available.

Schools

We can put together tailored sessions for school aged children, school assemblies and presentations to staff and pupils.  We also run competitions with local schools.  Please contact us for more details on current projects.

Business

We can provide advice sessions for employees and information on renewable technologies.   If you have other requirements please contact us for more information
