Work our your Carbon Footprint
Your Carbon Footprint is a measure of the
impact your activities have on the environment in terms of the
amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon
dioxide. Why not work out yours and see where you could try and
reduce your footprint.

Energy Monitors
You can borrow an energy monitor from libraries in Havant. It’s
easy to use - just clip it on to your mains wire, and plug
the monitor in. It will show you how much energy you are
using and highlight where you can make reductions.
Generate your own energy
Renewable energy technologies like solar
panels, wind turbines and biomass heaters offer an alternative to
fossil fuels and can help reduce your homes CO2
emissions.
There are financial benefits too. As well as
producing your own energy you can make money from the electricity
generated by your renewable technology installation as a result of
the introduction of Feed in tariffs in April 2010 and the
introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) from
2011/12

Support local business
Put money back into your local community by
supporting local businesses. Try and shop at your local corner
shop, butcher and vegetable shop instead of large supermarket
chains. Buying local food also cuts down on your food miles which
will benefit the environment.
By buying food that is in season you will also
keep your costs down. For tips on what food is in season

Waste less
REDUCE the amount of rubbish
you produce Why not try the following:
- Buy goods with little or no packaging – let’s
encourage manufacturers to see there is a market for ‘less wrapped’
products.
- Drink tap water rather than bottled water –
it’s up to 1,000 times cheaper with no nasty plastic waste!
- Think before you print – do you really need
it?
REUSE what you cannot
reduce
- Reuse your shopping bags or buy a strong
re-usable bag for life.
- Can it be repaired? Think before you
bin!
- Donate unwanted items to charity shops
RECYCLE only what you can't
reduce or reuse.
- Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste
that goes to landfill, cuts down on energy use and pollution.
