The Countryside
Despite the fact that the Borough is home to
120,000 people, its position on the south coast of England means
that attractive countryside is not far away, and indeed there are
many jewels to be discovered within the Borough itself. More
details on the following links.
Common Land is land that historically has been open for all to use, traditionally for the grazing of animals but lately for general access purposes. Village Greens are also classed as 'common land'.
Hampshire County Council has been working with residents and landowners to find out what people think about local rights of way and other access to the countryside and what should be done to improve them. The result is The Hampshire Countryside Access Plan, which consists of 7 local area plans and a countywide ‘Overview’ document. Each local plan identifies the main issues in a particular part of Hampshire and suggests what should be done to improve access to the countryside in that area. Havant falls with the 'Solent' and 'Forest of Bere' areas.
The Countryside Code is there to help everyone - residents, businesses and visitors - enjoy the countryside responsibly
The Borough has much interest to those who enjoy the wonders of nature. Bird watching is a major activity, and the area's nature reserves have something for everyone
