How can I dispose of large household items?
The Council currently offers a chargeable collection service
to residents of the Borough . Alternatively, you can take
items to one of the local
Household Waste Recycling Centres to
dispose of.
How can I request this service?
For further details of this service or to
arrange a collection, telephone Customer Services on (023)
9244 6010.
What are the charges and when will you collect?
Charges vary depending on the number of items
required for collection. Customer Services will inform you of
the charge when you make contact on the above number.
A concessionary discount of 33% of the full charge will be
applied for borough residents in receipt of full Council or Housing
Tax Benefit and Pension Credit - Proof will be
required.
All payments must be received before a collection date can be
arranged. Collections will be carried out within seven days
of payment, and you will be given a scheduled day of
collection.
Items to be presented for collection where it is clearly
accessible on foot, nothing must be obstructing access.
Operatives are not permitted to enter premises and if you live in a
flat above ground level, all items must be brought down to an
agreed collection point on ground level - lift or stairs can not be
used.
What will you collect?
Items such as ovens, TVs, computers, furniture (including
carpets, beds and mattresses), bulk timber - almost anything that
won't fit into a wheeled bin, can be collected as long as it can be
moved by two operatives.
What won't you collect?
We will not take garden waste as part of this service
No builders rubble or soil will be collected but small
quantities (a car boot full, for example), should be taken to
one of the
Household Waste Recycling
Centres. Larger quantities of rubble and soil, even if
carried out as a DIY project, are actually commercial waste and the
disposal needs to be arranged using
a commercial company.
How can I dispose of hazardous waste?
Hazardous waste such as asbestos, flammable liquids or poisons
requires special handling. For more information or advice please
contact
Customer Services on
(023) 9244 6010.
