What we do as a team
The Coastal Partnership Team aim
to reduce risks to people, the developed and natural environment
from flooding and coastal erosion by encouraging provision of
technically, economically and environmentally sound defence
measures along the coastline of the Partnership.
This is achieved by undertaking a
number of functions:
- ensure the development of strategic
plans for the future management of the coastline and ensure their
implementation,
- ensure that any development within
the coastal zone does not adversely effect the environment,
- ensure that any development within
the coastal zone does not disrupt natural processes, such as the
transport of sediment along the shoreline,
- ensuring a sustainable approach by
avoiding committing future generations to inflexible and expensive
options for coastal defence,
- monitoring the evolution of the
coastline and the forcing parameters affecting it.

The services we provide:
- Liaison with organisations, bodies and individuals with an
interest in the management of the coastal zone, including
SCOPAC
(Standing Conference On Problems Associated with the
Coastline).
- Develop strategic plans for the future management of the
coastline and ensure their implementation.
- Ensure that developments within the coastal zone do not
adversely affect the environment.
- Avoid committing future generations to inflexible and expensive
options for coastal defence.
- Monitoring the evolution of the coastline and the waves and
tides affecting it.
- Where appropriate, implement the construction of suitable
coastal defences.
- We have a link to the 'CHIMET' service which provides residents
and marine users with real time information on wave heights, wind
speeds etc from the Chichester Bar Beacon at the mouth of
Chichester Harbour (in association with Chichester Harbour
Conservancy, Chichester Harbour Federation and the RNLI)

you have read this information, we would be grateful for your
feedback on how you think we are doing. In particular, we
would be interested to learn whether you think we are doing enough
to preserve and maintain the Borough's coastal
environment. Do you think it is important that the
Council continues this work?
