Accumulations
Environmental Health can take action to deal
with accumulations and deposited materials on privately owned land,
which are:
- prejudicial to health (i.e. are likely to cause disease),
or
- cause a nuisance (i.e. cause a substantial interference with
neighbouring land or property).
We can deal with accumulations of putrescible material which,
for example:
- smell badly enough to stop neighbours being able to use their
gardens or
- which are infested with rats (which can carry disease).
We cannot deal with accumulations of non-putrescible materials
such as building materials, rubble, scrap metal and domestic
appliances, which are only an eyesore. Such matters may be able to
be dealt with by our colleagues in the Planning and
Development Service if the accumulation is so bad that it
is detrimental to the visual amenity of the neighbourhood.
Fly tipped materials (including hypodermic needles) on public
open spaces such as highways, lay-bys, grass verges, etc, should be
reported to Environmental Services.
