Clean Schools Competition
The competition is open to all schools and colleges in the
Borough of Havant.
The winning school will receive a cheque for £1,000. The
council is investigating, with local businesses offering additional
donated prizes.
A school wishing to enter must do so before 1st
December 2005, but entries can be made starting 1st
November.
Schools will be judged according to the criteria below and
awarded points for fulfilling the criteria. The school with the
highest score is the winner. In the event of a tie the prize money
will be shared between the winning schools.
There will be one visit to the school to determine what
measures the school takes to encourage students not to litter. This
will be scored out of 10. This is to encourage schools to push no
litter messages.
There will be three random visits to the school and the roads
surrounding the school between the 1st December and
31st March to score the cleanliness. The scoring will be
carried out without entering the school site. The scoring system is
one used nationally by the government to measure the amount of
litter and detritus. This is to encourage students to take the
message outside of the school and not to drop food and drink
related litter on their way to and from school and at lunchtimes.
It will also encourage schools to include in literature home to
parents to help by not dropping litter outside of schools when they
are waiting to collect students.
Neighbours to the school (some households, businesses and
shops) will be asked to help us to award points to the school. This
is to encourage local people to participate and help the school in
their efforts. Some local businesses may want to participate in
other reward schemes of their own to encourage students not to
litter, and this information will be fed back to schools if this is
the case.
