Warblington Cemetery Extension

The extension to Warblington Cemetery comprises the southern part of the field immediately to the east of Warblington Church.

The new cemetery has been designed to best current standards and includes specific features for the disabled. The completed cemetery has facilities for 'woodland' burials, a dedicated children's area, and space for both burials and cremations.

Much design and investigation work was carried out to ensure that potential issues about the water table and effect on adjacent environmentally sensitive areas were avoided. This included an innovative deep drainage system which ensures that groundwater below the site is controlled to avoid operational problems.

The opening ceremony was held on 3rd May 2006.

The deep drainage cutter is on the right of the picture, with the white drainage pipe being fed into the narrow trench to a depth of four metres. The vehicle to the left of the picture feeds free draining material into the trench - the idea being that water follows this route through the ground and into the pipework. This drains to a pumping station which will then pump the water into the nearby stream.

Completed land drainage pipe lines running across the area of the new Cemetery. The gravel infill is four metres deep, with a pipe at the bottom of the trench. The ends of the pipes are visible, and when completed these will be caped off as rodding eyes to allow for future maintenance of the land drainage system.
