The Outdoor Gym:
The 'AdiZone' outdoor Gym at Eastoke Corner Seafront is due
to be formally opened by Havant Borough Council, Adidas and British
Marathon runner, Liz Yelling at 1pm on Friday 21st January
2011.
Councillor Lenaghan, portfolio holder for culture and community
said, “The feedback since the gym was completed in the summer has
been great. Now with the official launch is set for
21st January 2011 it’s a great opportunity for
people to jump on the band wagon of New year’s resolutions – ‘New
Year New You’ the facility is open 365 days a year so there is no
excuse it’s open at anytime!”
“This project was the result of months of hard
work behind the scenes by officers at the council securing the
funding necessary to make it happen. I hope residents across the
borough enjoy using it and benefit from it.”
The ceremony will bring together local schools, community
members and sports clubs to try out the equipment. The gym was
completed in August 2010 and was funded by Havant BC, Hampshire
County Council and Adidas. This new multi-sports facility
designed in the shape of the London 2012 Olympics logo is a great
activity hub for Hayling.
The AdiZone, designed and developed by adidas,
Official Sportswear Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games, is a permanent installation measuring 625sq
metres and boasts sporting facilities inspired by Olympic and
Paralympic sports.
It includes a large outdoor gym with equipment such as leg and
abdominal bench presses, treadmill and cross trainer. The other
areas within the Adizone are the basketball and football area,
climbing wall, tennis wall and a freestyle area for aerobics, dance
and martial arts. There is a notice board on site with
explanations for each piece of equipment. For more information
about activities in Havant Borough visit the Get Active! pages at

The AdiZone is situated adjacent the existing childrens play
area in a traffic-free pedestrian zone. The old car park
entrance is now closed due to the location of the Gym but a
new one just a hundred metres along Seafront road is open.
Other general landscape and access improvements forthcoming in
the area will include four hard surfaced disabled parking
spaces at the old car park entrance site and a
footpath/cycleway along the seafront car park edge.
This will support the vision for Eastoke
Corner as outlined in the Hayling Seafront Masterplan that
shows a new and enlarged play area offering a wider variety of
play. |
