| October 2007 |
- The Contractors have experienced a small delay on other
projects and are now due to start on site on October 22nd.
|
| September 2007 |
- Contractors have been appointed and works are due to
commence on or around 30 September (weather
permitting).
- The Liveability funding is sufficient to start phase 1 of
the nature area works, drainage of the whole park and installation
of the MUGA. The drainage part of the works is a complex
contract and involves the movement of large machinery in the park
and delivery of large quantities of material by bulk in eight
wheeled lorries.
- There will be disruption to the park. In particular
the drainage contractor requires the use of two thirds of the
Milton Road car park for the duration of the contract (estimated at
approximately 10 weeks - the weather will be a key factor which is
likely to affect these estimates). A temporary compound will
be fenced off in this area thus severely restricting the available
car parking space. A pedestrian access will be maintained to
the scout hut/toddler group hut.

2007.

July 2006

|
- A temporary nature area has been
established on the old allotment site. Specialist advice has been
sought to determine a future wetlands position for the site. The
drainage scheme is due to start on site in July 2006. Once the
drainage is in place the new pathway and the multiuse games area
will start. In the meantime the contracts are being tendered and
planning permission is being put forward for the Multi Use Games
Area (
MUGA
).

Background to the project
The Council engaged with the
stakeholders of the park, adjacent residents and nearby schools to
find out how you would like this money spent in the park at a
workshop on 1
st June 2005. Ideas from the workshop were
costed and a further wider consultation was held asking local
residents and park users to prioritise those costed ideas. This
prioritisation exercise was analysed and the results are shown
below with the schemes in priority order.
The budget for the recreation ground is £319,000. A gap
is drawn under £320,000 where there is funding from the
current budget. Should a project above the grey line be unable to
be met or there be budget remaining then the next project on the
list will be picked to go ahead. The Council will work towards
securing additional funding in the future so that some more of the
projects can be realised. It is intended to start work on the
selected projects as soon as possible.

* Note: Lighting was not presented as a specific scheme but a
large number of people put this forward on their forms under
‘other’ and the consultation workshop also supported the idea that
pathways and the MUGA will be lit. It is intended that the new
paths above and the Multi-use games area will include some form of
lighting for users of the park in the winter. It is also included
in the above list as a separate scheme as it scored under other in
its own right and should money become available additional lighting
will be considered as appropriate.
