The Liveability Fund
Sustainable communities: building for the future (ODPM
February 2003) includes a commitment to introduce a new
Liveability Fund to support significant local authority projects to
improve parks and open spaces.
With assistance from this programme, the Council proposes to
develop and implement a Public Spaces Design Framework that
recognises local identity whilst setting some Borough wide
standards, to include:
a) an agreed urban design framework to enhance the visual and
physical amenity of the borough, and to provide a stronger
sense of borough wide identity;
b) a public space/streetscape strategy, delivered by a new
public spaces development unit, to ensure ongoing investment in the
roll-out and maintenance of the improvements;
c) the application of the design framework to key corridors
and public spaces across the borough.
