Capital Projects

A total of £3,325,000 was given to the council to spend on capital schemes that fulfil the Liveability criteria. This is distributed as follows:
  • £300,000 for schemes sponsored by the six Community Boards (£50,000 per board). These schemes should be in the areas covered by each of the boards, and should fit one or more of the categories for capital expenditure.
  • £60,000 for an Public Realm Design Framework to set up good quality design mechanisms across the borough. The framework will give guidance about design elements of future open space developments in the borough, and will help to attract further funding through developers contributions that can be put into improvement of the quality of our streets, parks and open spaces. 
  • £2,965,000 to fund major capital projects across the borough. On the 8 February 2005 the Council's Executive agreed the following strategic capital projects:

Improvements to the north end of the London Road precinct as a gateway to the town centre
 
Completed projects in the town centre-St Faith's Square, Homewell Spring Waters, the Orbital sculpture and Springline railings at Havant Park
 
A number of pilot off-street car parking schemes to set the scene for future development to improve the visual nature and useability of strategic through-routes
 
Improvements along the seafront and beach to incorporate a plaza at Eastoke corner
 
Design included lighting, tree planting, a new crossing and other improvements that were completed in February 2007
 
Improvements to the main underpass at the A259 roundabout
 
The scheme for improvements to parking and shop fronts was completed in 2009
 
New toilets at the Greywell shopping precinct and demolition of toilets at Front Lawn Recreation Ground
 
Waterlooville Recreation ground proposals
 
Information about play facilities being provided through the Liveability project agreed from a list of priorities submitted by the Community Boards and supported by the Parks and Open Spaces Audit
 
Art project at a number of sites across the borough working with schools and artists
 
Liveability project to put in watering systems on sponsored roundabouts in the borough
 
A project to design and install a number of signs in key areas to identify districts and areas in the borough
