Statement of Community Involvement
The council is required to involve the community in the
preparation of local development documents and decisions on very
large planning applications. The Statement of Community Involvement
(SCI) sets out how and when you can
get involved in planning decisions for your area.
Havant’s current SCI was submitted to the Secretary of State in
January 2006 for independent examination. The inspector's
report was received in August 2006 and the SCI was adopted by the council on 18 October
2006. The inspector's report and the final version of the

Since then, the regulations governing the
preparation of SCIs have since been simplified and, for example, no
longer require government approval or a public examination.
Furthermore, the Coalition Government’s
Localism Bill, published in December 2010, has proposed reforms
to the planning system and consequent changes in procedures for
community involvement and consultation.
As a consequence of these changes, the
council’s
SCI
is presently under
review and the timetable for its preparation is as follows:
