Local young people have joined forces to work with Havant
Borough Council's Retail Support and partners to improve the
appearance of the subway between Hambledon Retail Park and St
George's Walk in Waterlooville. The objective of the project was to
enhance the environment for shoppers and visitors, increase
footfall and awareness for the town centre as well as engage with
the local community and, in particular, with young
people.
The theme of the mural is old images of Waterlooville, moving
in time to incorporate scenes of the present and future. The Art
and Soul Traders, a not for profit organisation, worked on the
design with local young people who helped the artists paint the
mural during the Easter holidays.
Cllr Mrs June Fulcher, then Mayor of Havant, formally
opened the subway during a special funday held in May, which
attracted a good crowd, who also enjoyed the full range of
entertainment that was put on to complement the celebrations.(See
below)
The project was organised by Havant Borough Council's Senior
Retail Support Officer alongside the Stakes Lodge Project,
Hampshire County Council Youth Services, Havant Borough Youth
Council, BAE Systems, Gales Brewery and Hermitage Housing.
If you're shopping in Waterlooville, why not come and take a
look?
