Promoting Social Inclusion and reducing poverty

Anti-Poverty Work

Havant Borough Council is committed to promoting social inclusion and tackling disadvantage. We also realise that we cannot do this on our own and that partnership working is key in responding to needs.  We are in the process of developing a community development plan, which will address areas of disadvantage and identify preventative initiatives in order to combat social exclusion and increase community involvement.

Anti-poverty initiatives are delivered through the Community Development Team, in partnership with many other teams in the Council.  The Council is committed to reducing poverty in the Borough, through promoting the take up of benefits, reducing debt by supporting agencies such as the Citizen's Advice Burueax and promoting affordable credit and banking solutions.

South Coast Money Line

South Coast Moneyline ( SCML) provides personal and business loans for residents of Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant, Southampton, Totton, Hythe and Eastleigh.  The Personal Loan Interest Rate is 24% Typical APR (loans up to £1000) or 22% (over £1000).  These rates are not as low as those from banks.  These loans are for people who would not normally be able to get credit from a bank or building society, who may be forced to consider loans from "loan sharks".  Many of South Coast Money Line's customers may have previously borrowed from doorstep lenders - charging as much as 500% interest.  These loans are for needs, rather than wants and SCML will never lend more than you can comfortably afford to repay. Personal loans of up to £5,000 can be provided for many purposes, including:
