Touring and Exploring
With excellent road and rail links
the Havant area makes an ideal base for exploring the wonders of
the south of England. Close to Portsmouth, Chichester and the Isle
of Wight, Havant borders Hampshire and West Sussex making a wealth
of exciting attractions and places of interest within easy
reach.

Where to go .... within ten miles
Denmead
Just on the outskirts of Waterlooville, a visit to Denmead
gives a taste of rural village life. Regular buses from
Waterlooville.
Fishbourne Roman Palace
A very interesting and enjoyable day
out discovering how the Romans lived within this area. The palace
has exquisite mosaic floors, which will remain in your memory for a
very long time. This is a must, for anyone interested in history.

Horndean
Home to the famous Gales brewery, where you can take a guided
tour if you wish. The Queen Elizabeth Country Park is located about
three miles north of Horndean. Regular buses
from Waterlooville.
Rowlands Castle
The stately home of Stansted is located at Rowlands Castle, as
is a fine example of a village green. Stansted House includes a
popular garden centre. Regular trains and buses from Havant.
Hambledon
A walkers dream; Hambledon is a picturesque village in a quiet
rural setting. Regular buses from Waterlooville.
Portsmouth
Rich in maritime history, this Naval City boasts many major
attractions including the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior
1860. The newest atrraction is the
Spinnaker Tower, with three
public viewing decks at 100m, 105m and 110m above sea level.

Portchester
Rich in history with a coastal Roman Castle and 3rd Century
Fort to explore. Regular buses from Havant.
Gosport
Bosham
An attractive waterside village with connections to King
Canute (Knut) and a well regarded craft centre - it's here that he
tried to stop the tide coming in. Buses and trains from Havant to
the top of the village.
Chidham
For quiet coastal walks the peaceful hamlet of Chidham is
ideal.
Thorney Island
Owned by the Ministry of Defence, this beautiful untamed
island is home to Brent Geese as well as soldiers. Access to the
island is by a security gate, where you have to give your name and
address before entering. Please keep to the set footpath, because
although you are most welcome, breaches in security are severely
dealt with! The island can also be closed without warning. Buses
from Emsworth.
Portsmouth Continental Ferryport
Currently ferries leave for five continental destinations from
the Portsmouth Ferryport; Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre, St. Malo and
Bilbao; as well as to Guernsey and Jersey in the Channel Islands.
Crossing times vary from just three hours for the fast ferry to
Cherbourg to just over a day to Santander and Bilbao. The on-board
entertainment and facilities more than make up for any time lost
travelling and many visitors take up the day trip or short break
packages just for the on-board experience! Regular buses from

Chichester
The cathedral city of Chichester is splendid for a day out;
with its fine shops and eating houses and a wealth of interesting
attractions. Regular buses and trains from Havant.
Where to go .... further afield
The Isle of Wight
Just 10 minutes from Portsmouth by
hovercraft, the Catamaran takes fifteen or 35 minutes by
car ferry, the Isle of Wight, with its pretty little villages and
coastal walks is well worth a day trip.
Arundel
A treasure trove of antique shops, a majestic castle and some
beautiful country walks. Trains direct from Havant.
Bognor Regis
A traditional British seaside resort complete with bandstand
and deckchairs. Direct buses from Havant.
Southampton
Once famous for the Ocean liners which pass through its port,
Southampton is now a thriving commercial centre. West Quay is now a
major shopping and leisure destination in its own right. Trains run
direct from Havant.
The New Forest
Wild ponies, ancient woodlands, heathlands and cream teas. The
New Forest is a walkers paradise and wonderful for watching the
changing seasons.
Brighton
Its just a short drive to this bohemian, regency styled city
where you will find some of the trendiest shops in the south of
England in the famous 'lanes'. Brighton Pavilion is not to be
