Tidal flooding and coastal erosion can endanger lives, homes, places of work, leisure and farmland. It can also have a significant impact on areas of environmental importance.

Climatic changes predicted over the next few decades may increase sea levels and the frequency and magnitude of storms, which would increase the risk of coastal flooding and erosion.

The Council aims to reduce these risks by encouraging the provision of technically, environmentally and economically sound coastal defence measures around the Borough's coastline.
