The placing and erection of signs on the public highway is
strictly controlled. A misplaced, confusing or distracting sign can
be the cause of an accident.

Members of the public should never erect their own signs -
including 'birthday banners' - on the highway. We will remove
such signs and prosecute those who put them up.
Signs to special events are co-ordinated through the
specialist
RAC
or
AA
Signs Units.
Signs related to the operation of the highway are strictly
controlled in size, location and appearance,
to designs laid down by Government. Signs away from the highway
erected by the Council generally follow the same conventions as
those on the highway in order to avoid confusion.
