Redundancies

Approx 480 IBM staff at North Harbour, Portsmouth are under threat of redundancy.  Many Havant residents could be at risk.

 

Business News

Havant magistrates Court which  had previously been reported as closing will be reused by the Justice Service.  

 

Wight Salads are relocating their Head Office  from Langstone Technology Park to Chichester.

 

Retail

Filarinskis, the ski and sports shop who have been located in East Street, Havant for many years are to relocate to a former furniture and car  showroom at the Broadbridge  roundabout on the A259 in Bosham, Chichester, West Sussex. This will leave a large empty retail unit in a part of the town which already has many empty shops.

 

On Saturday 17 April, a small publishing house based in Winchester - Dragon International Independent Arts – held a 'Meet the Authors' event in The Meridian Centre. The venue is the currently empty shop opposite WH Smiths, the one that the Festival used for the Conan Doyle Exhibition. This has been arranged in conjunction with Havant Borough Council and the Literary Festival.

 

Commercial Property

14 acres of employment land at the MDA site in Waterlooville has been put up for sale by the developers.

Women into Business

A free networking event is being held at  HBC on Wed 14 April 2010.

 

Chamber of Commerce

A major networking event was held by the Chamber at Langstone Technology Park on 19 April 2010 at 1600.

 

Support programmes for workless residents

Employability courses are being offered at Leigh Pak Library and Havant Library.  These free half day courses cover areas such as: computing, using the internet, CV writing, job search, etc. The course are funded by HCC

 

Wheatsheaf Trust

The PUSH funded ANP project has finished. During the period April 2009 –March 2010 405 Havant residents accessed the service delivered by Wheatsheaf Trust. 25 have taking up skills training to NVQ 2/3 level, 56 have found work, 36 have started other forms of training.  This project was a pilot for the Adult Advancement Careers Service (AACS) which will start to  be delivered nationally by late summer 2010. 

 

Learning and Skills

The LSC (Learning and Skills Council) has now been replaced with the Skills Funding Agency and the Young Peoples Learning Agency .  Funding for 16 -19 year olds goes back to County Councils and Unitary Authorities.

Taylor Wimpey have sold 41 properties so far at the MDA site in Waterlooville, this is 65% of the private units on phase 1, 18 units are occupied
