Havant's Public Service Plaza

Public Service PlazaPlaza now open

The reception area of Havant's Public Service Plaza is now open to the public. It offers a range of public services delivered jointly by Havant Borough and Hampshire County Councils, as well as services by voluntary organisations.
There are computers with access to online services, private interview rooms and of course, knowledgeable staff to answer questions. There will soon also be rooms that the public can book for community events.  The second phase of refurbishment, in the back offices, will be completed by the summer of 2012.

Savings for taxpayers

The building is expected to achieve a 35-40% reduction in energy consumption per metre squared of floor space which will save money and reduce carbon emissions. It will also save money for both Councils by reducing the amount of office space they occupy. In the long term it will allow two whole offices in other locations to be sold, as the two councils fit more people into the same space.

Inspiring regeneration

The Public Service Village project will save money and transform service delivery by bringing together a range of public and voluntary services in one location. In the long term, it may attract investment to the wider civic site, while helping to regenerate the town.

Name the building

Following a public vote on a shortlist of names suggested by residents and staff, Havant’s refurbished Civic Office has found its new name.

With more than 16,000 votes, Public Service Plaza was the clear winner with over 2,000 more votes than its closest rival, Waterhaven. In total 30,554 votes were cast through Havant Borough Council’s website poll, via e-mail, suggestion box, post, and text message.

A panel including representatives from the local community, Havant Borough and Hampshire County Councils, and the Portsmouth Evening News recently considered 150 names for the building, which were submitted by members of the public and staff. Four names were then shortlisted for public vote, where residents chose their favourite.
