Party in the park
Joy Okwuadigbo is a lady on a mission. As head of regeneration
for the council she’s made it her quest to try and encourage the
whole borough to discover their hidden talents.

Joy explains: “Havant is a town full of talented and skilled
people but some of them just may not know it yet. I want to get
people thinking more creatively about their interests and get them
to turn these into money making careers!”
“Learning doesn’t have to be boring,” adds Joy. And to
demonstrate just how much fun learning can be, Joy’s been working
with the Havant Skills and Employability Partnership to organise
Party in the Park - a skills and jobs fair with a difference - at
Havant Park on Saturday 6 June.
“This is going to be a fun day with music and entertainment,”
says Joy. “Because learning is about having fun. Come along with
the family just to have a look. There’ll be lots of different
organisations and employers you can talk to such as the colleges,
Hampshire County Council, Army, Royal Navy, Brendoncare, Weatsheaft
Trust, Job Centre Plus and Business Link so no matter what your
interests are we can help you turn those into a career.
“And it doesn’t matter how old you are, whether you have any
workplace experience or not or even if you’ve had challenges you
haven’t been able to overcome in the past, we’re here to help. The
worst crime is not achieving the best you are capable of. If one
door shuts, try another,” advises Joy.
And Joy is no stranger to challenges either. Raised in Nigeria
during an era when expectations of women were much lower, she says,
“Trying to build a career threw many obstacles in my way – as a
woman, as a wife and as a mother. But I got through those
challenges and found that there’s so much fun in achieving. If I
can do it, you can too!”
