Details As required by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, the borough works in partnership with Hampshire County Council's Emergency Planning Unit and others, to produce plans for action in the event of an emergency, whether natural or man-made.

The council provides emergency planning as just one of the services that you may never have heard about. For 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, there are people trained and ready to respond to any major emergency, and to co-ordinate the work of the council to try to lessen the effect of the incident on the people, businesses and environment of the borough.

Such emergencies can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. Some may be caused by natural events, such as weather conditions or disease outbreaks. Others, unfortunately, may be caused by human action.

Whatever the cause of the emergency incident, the police, fire, ambulance and coastguard services are primarily responsible for dealing with the situation 'on the ground'. Depending on the scale of the incident the armed services may also be called in to assist.
